"Life itself is the proper binge". - Julia Child
My name is Jenny Leinbach and I live in Durham, NC and Yellowbird Baking is the happy result of my baking life so far.
I am a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and have worked in restaurants and bakeries from Austin to New Orleans to New York. Like many southern girls, I grew up on sugar...coca-cola in my baby bottle. My mother Jane and grandmother Boo were Tennessee women who created pleasure from scratch in Mix Masters and GE ovens. No holiday gathering or Sunday dinner table was complete without one of the Moore sisters' perfect pound cakes or a delicate angel food presiding over a southern feast. These were confections created with wisdom, heart, and soul, and meant to be consumed with reckless abandon.
I carried this love of baking through college where I treated myself and my friends to lots of cookies, brownies and fudge-- then on to culinary school where I expanded the repertoire and learned how to make cakes that were a little fancier. I was able to hone my craft in some fascinating cities where I was inspired by the sophisticated and truly creative chefs and bakers with whom I worked. My goal with Yellowbird Baking is to recreate for you some of these delicious memories, tossed with inspiration, herbs and flowers.
Please consume with reckless abandon.
Jenny, your baker.
