Classic Cakes

PEARLY WHITE CAKE
A white cake with substance and enriched with sour cream.  Not the light, dry cake from your grocery store experience.  Iced with your choice of Buttercream Icing or Cream Cheese Icing.  A lovely option is Lavender & Honey buttercream.  

GENTLEMAN'S YELLOW CAKE
A traditional yellow butter cake. This is the hands-down favorite of my neighbors, husband and boys. Iced with chocolate or mocha buttercream.  
MISS LEWIS'S DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE
 The best chocolate cake ever.  Rich and sophisticated.  Filled and iced with silky dark chocolate ganache.  Raspberry preserve filling is a delicious option.  

CARROT CAKE OF THE RENAISSANCE
A carrot-hazelnut with Frangelico liqueur.  Finished with whipped cream cheese icing and a generous amount of toasted hazelnuts. 
VELVET RED VELVET
The beauteous wine-red cake with magnolia white cream cheese icing.
PINK & WHITE CAKE
Pearly White Cake filled and iced with pink vanilla buttercream or fresh strawberry cream cheese icing.  Someone asked me if it could be a Blue & White Cake  Yes!

Fancy Cakes



JULIA'S LEMON BUTTERMILK CAKE
Lovely cake with a tender buttermilk crumb.  Lemon curd filling and  lemon buttercream icing.  This cake is Pale Yellow Perfection.

APPLE & CARAMEL CAKE w/ ROSEMARY
SEASONAL.  
Best when apples are in season in the fall and winter.  Apple cake made with homemade caramel sauce and fresh rosemary.  With caramel buttercream icing. 

CHRISTINE'S COCONUT CAKE
My version of Christine's very famous coconut cake.  Tender white coconut cake,  filled and iced with whipped creme fraiche.  Coconut all over.   This cake is best served cold. 
A SWANKY ITALIAN CREAM CAKE
Pearly White Cake layered with mascarpone & whipped cream icing and fresh seasonal fruit filling.  Usually left naked on the sides but this is optional.  (see photos)  Simple, elegant, delicious.  

CLASSIC ITALIAN CREAM CAKE
Perhaps you remember this one.  A buttermilk white cake with coconut and pecans, and cream cheese icing.  MY wedding cake.  

ALMOND PRALINE CAKE
Delicatey almond-flavored Pearly White Cake with almond praline filling.  Whipped cream cheese or almond buttercream icing.  Garnished with more almond praline.   
ORANGE MARMALADE CAKE
Buttermilk cake, tangy not-too-sweet and very pretty. Cake is orange-syrup soaked and orange curd filled. Iced with whipped cream/ sour cream frosting. This cake is best served cold and perfectly lovely on a buffet table. 

BLUE RIBBON BANANA CAKE
My take on Chuck's Mom's prizewinning cake. Tender and so banana-y, with pecan praline filling and mocha or chocolate buttercream icing.

  
 UNION STREET CHOCOLATE TORTE
A rich and classic flourless chocolate-almond torte glazed with chocolate ganache.  Viennese sophistication.

YELLOWBIRD LEMON CAKE
My signature cake. Bright, fresh lemon flavor baked in bundt shape. Finished with a tart and slightly crunchy lemon-sugar glaze.

BROWN SUGAR POUND CAKE
Indeed a pound of brown sugar and a cup of pecans in each cake. Coffee-Whisky glazed.   Pound cake perfection for after dinner with brandy & cigars.
SWEET POTATO-SPICE CAKE 
Sweet and spicy with golden raisins and pecans and a rum glaze.  I mean it is soooo good. 
BETTY'S TEXAS FUDGE CAKE
A dark and plenty chocolatey pound cake. Finished with poured chocolate icing.   A recipe from my Austin bakery days.
ORANGE CHIFFON CAKE
If orange is your thing.  This is plenty orangey yet light and demure.  Frosted with orange zested whipped cream.  Orange is my thing.
